Is T-Score still in use in PSLE scoring?

The Ministry of Education (MOE) in Singapore has announced a revamp of the PSLE scoring system, which replaces the T-score with eight wider grade bands starting from 2021.

Under the new system, students will receive grades from AL (for the highest performers) to the lowest grade of EL. The grade bands are designed to give a more detailed and nuanced picture of a student's performance, rather than the previous system, which was based on a highly competitive ranking system.

The new grading system is part of the MOE's efforts to move away from overemphasis on academic performance and to provide a more holistic education for students. It is also designed to reduce stress and competition among students and encourage them to focus on their own learning progress rather than being overly concerned about their rankings relative to their peers.

The new grading system is expected to provide a fairer and more accurate assessment of students' abilities, taking into account a wider range of factors such as their learning progress, strengths, and interests. The change in the scoring system has been welcomed by many educators and parents who believe that the previous system placed too much pressure on students and did not accurately reflect their true abilities.
